Though it might seem like a still from a romantic movie, the subjects here barely know each other. This was taken during a pasayaw where girls sit in one corner and wait for guys to approach them and ask them to dance… after paying. It wasn’t prostitution but an income-generating project for the barrio’s fiesta. We participated and one guy asked me to dance with him. He was 19 and a construction worker in the city during the weekdays because his parents could no longer earn from their land ever since the Lopezes had ex-military men surround their area.
